From Burnout To Having Your Own Online Business

Did you ever get yourself into burnout territory? Well, that is what happened to me years ago. I had this dead-end job which I really hated. And then I got kicked out of the job. This happened because I had burned myself out on the job, plus the boss disliked me. Really, it was a blessing in disguise. After all, the job was making me puke – so getting out of it was a good thing.

The immediate issue was: how can I pay my bills. Since I had already spent years of my life getting educated, I really didn’t want to go back to school. Plus I had to make some cash immediately.

At least I had a connection to the Web and my clunky computer. Also I knew how to build web pages. As I browsed the Web, I understood there were many business opportunities online which showed some profit potential. Although I had none of my own stuff to sell, I could still get going.

At first, I made some money by running AdSense ads on some of my web sites. After a while, I came to the conclusion that affiliate marketing was more lucrative. This means you get paid commissions by promoting products for someone else.

One great example is Clickbank. You see, Clickbank is the major payment processor used by those who sell some virtual product, like an ebook, online. It is very easy to become an affiliate for any of those products. Then you collect good commission money when people buy stuff using your affiliate links.

Most products give you a half, or more, of the pie, for your contribution. Imagine for example an ebook, on the subject of making money online. Maybe it sells for 47 dollars. Then you may get about $25, or more, for each sale referred by you. I have heard that many affiliates make boatloads of cash promoting Clickbank products.

As for myself, I have had good success promoting web hosting companies. I set up a simple web site with reviews of a couple of web hosts, and collected commissions when people signed up through my affiliate links. It’s great – except for all those competitors. Many webmasters are trying a similar strategy, and often they don’t really know anything about the web hosts they are promoting. This makes would-be customers suspicious. Personally, I make sure to do my research on every web host I consider promoting and only recommend the good ones.
